Kuan Yin

Card of the day: KUAN YIN – Mother of Mercy

Compassion. Healing. Serenity. Become a channel for compassion.

(Deck: “Goddess Inspiration Oracle” by Kris Waldherr, 2007)

Kuan Yin is one of the most beloved deities in China, and she is said to personify “karuna,” the principle of boundless compassion and kindness. Considered to act as a guardian angel to humans, Kuan Yin is also known as the mother of mercy, mother of compassion and healing – and even for someone to say the name of the goddess brings protection and relief to those in need of her help.

Kuan Yin heals those who are sick in heart and body, paying special attention to mothers and children in distress, and even seafarers in storms. She has a temple on the mountain of Miao Feng Shan set upon a faraway island. As people pray to her, they shake rattles and other noisemakers to attract Kuan Yin’s notice.

Dear ones, the principle of “karuna,” that of boundless compassion and kindness, begins with how you treat yourself. What are the ways in which you can practice self-compassion and thus attain to the heights of mercy, like bodhisattva Kuan Yin does? Are you also extending your compassion to the people in your spheres of influence, knowing that love begets love?

I feel that this card appeared because somewhere in the fabric of your life, a fence needs mending or a soul (it could even be yours) needs tending. Be kind to yourself and others, and feel the lotus of love and compassion bloom brightly like a thousand suns within your bodymindspiritheart.

“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.” —The Dalai Lama
